Both versions of the test share the same Listening and Speaking sections, but the Reading and Writing sections will vary.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a standardized test that measures the English language proficiency of non-native speakers who wish to enroll in English-speaking universities.

Accepted by many academic and professional institutions worldwide, TOEFL is one of the two major English language tests, alongside IELTS. The test is a trademark of the Educational Testing Service (ETS), a private non-profit organization that designs and administers it.

TOEFL scores are issued by ETS and are sent directly to institutions. These scores are valid for two years from the test date. The test consists of four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing, with scores ranging from 0 to 30 per section, and a total score of 0 to 120.

The TOEFL typically takes around 3 hours to complete, though you should plan for about 3½ hours in total, accounting for check-in time.

Score requirements vary by institution, and it is up to individual colleges and universities to determine the scores they require.

PTE Academic scores are accepted by thousands of institutions and are approved for all UK, Australian, and New Zealand visa and immigration categories. Test sessions can be scheduled up to 24 hours in advance, 365 days a year.

To complete the test, candidates must attend a secure Pearson test center, where they will use a computer and headset to listen to, read, and respond to questions.

DUOLINGO ENGLISH TEST

Duolingo is the most popular language-learning platform and the most downloaded education app in the world, with over 300 million users.

The Duolingo English Test is a modern language proficiency tool designed for today’s international students and institutions. It offers an English proficiency score, video interview, and writing sample, providing an accessible, efficient, and secure testing experience. The test is accepted by many prestigious universities and colleges globally, including education providers in the USA, UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. Its acceptance rate has been growing steadily.

This test can be taken online at any time and from anywhere, and it can be completed in about 1 hour, with scores available within 2 days. Like other English language tests, the Duolingo English Test is valid for 2 years. The cost is is relatively affordable compared to other tests like IELTS, TOEFL, and PTE.

SAT

The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities in the USA to make admissions decisions.

The SAT is a multiple-choice, pencil-and-paper test created and administered by the College Board. The primary purpose of the SAT is to measure a high school student's readiness for college and provide colleges with a common data point for comparing all applicants. College admissions officers review standardized test scores alongside other factors such as your high school GPA, the classes you took, letters of recommendation from teachers, extracurricular activities, admissions interviews, and personal essays.

The importance of SAT scores in the college application process varies from school to school. Generally, the higher your SAT score (and/or ACT score), the more options you will have for attending and funding college or university.

The SAT takes about 3 hours to complete, plus an additional 50 minutes for the optional essay. SAT scores range from 400 to 1600, combining results from two sections: Mathematics (200–800) and Evidence-Based Critical Reading and Writing (200–800).
